I've known Shawnatee for almost as long as I've lived in Humboldt County. When I saw that she had added a float spa to her Platinum Studios Hair Salon and Spa, I was stoked to see her business growing, float spa sounds cool.
Then Shawnatee signed up to be shared on Rhapsodic Global, and I knew what I had to do. I booked myself an appointment to float in one of their "Dream Rooms."
Shawnatee and dedicated staff have operated the Platinum Studio Salon and Spa since March of 2008. The Float Spa is a recent development, and I feel comfortable saying everybody should experience it at least once.
The float spa is basically a giant covered jacuzzi filled with saline (salt) water, increasing buoyancy and giving a person the experience of weightlessness. Platinum Studios Dream Pods had calming lights, that could also be turned off, as with the soothing music which I appreciate. I was given very clear directions about how to use the float spa and where I could find everything in the room, plus they let me know that there is a shower for us to use before and after floating.
I tried with and without music and lights, with the neck floatie without it, got some salt water in my eye, sprayed my face with fresh water, rolled over on my stomach, pretty much everything I could do while floating. The temperature of the water is set to be the same as the surface of our skin, causing one to lose the sensation of being separate from their surrounding habitat which is nice. Overall the experience was really pretty relaxing, I had to explore the weightlessness and "swim" around a little. I wish I could swim in a big pool of that water so I could make water angles and other silly stuff like that.
Though the dream pods are large, there was a lot more space than I expected. Afterward, the experience left me feeling pretty relaxed and overall happy. I've read that taking all that weight off the muscles, along with the water temperature of a float spa can be healing. I believe in the benefits of floating because I could feel different aches and strains during which made me want to pay better attention to my overall health in general. The vibe I get at the Platinum Studio Salon and Float Spa is that self care can be a gratifying experience, one which brings beauty into our lives.
