Open-Mic at Delightful Neighborhood Market in Tacoma, WA

While I was out posting flyers in Tacoma, WA, I saw signage for The North End 1st and 3rd Tuesday Open Mic at the Delightful Neighborhood Market! This being my first week in Puget Sound, I had to go, and I’m glad I did. I’ve never in all my 18 years of song-writing, experienced a more supportive crowd of musicians and spectators. It was really fun hearing people play; there were some very talented performers and almost no phones out the entire time!

As a newcomer to the area, it felt good meeting the different people who came out, and hearing the heart felt tunes of local musicians turns out to be a great way to get perspective on where I am in my travels as well. I found myself in a new space, great people to play with and lots of different feelings coming up. It was easy to see that I too could get up there and play a song or two, playing music and traveling can be such an emotionally rewarding experience.

The host of the show, Jillian, was very welcoming. I hear that when time permits, Jillian and some of the participants play together as a group! The Delightful Neighborhood Market itself is very much what you’d like to see in your neighborhood; family vibes with space to hang out over coffee, board games, or homework. There are the convenience items that people might need all within a simple walk down the street near the north end of Tacoma.

Whether it’s The North End Open Mic, The neighborhood Mix & Mingle held on 3rd Saturday’s, Food Vendors, or Live Music, we can find their current events schedule on their Instagram here. While here writing this story today, I am indeed delighted to enjoy treats from local bakers and to feel the atmosphere of happy people around me.

Delightful Neighborhood Market has been serving the Tacoma community since 1916 as a symbol of local pride and as a place for locals (and travelers) to feel at home. This is the kind of space that I’m proud to write a story about, any neighborhood market that creates this much space for their community is a place where culture is going to thrive.
